On Sunday, Madaa Creative Center - Silwan organized the “Awnah” project to harvest olive trees in the town of Silwan.

The Participating children and women harvested olive trees for several hours in a land owned by one of the women of the center.

The event's coordinator, Tala Sarhan, said: “We have harvested olives with children and women, in an atmosphere of cooperation, joy, spirit of participation and initiative. During that time, we had a Palestinian breakfast under the olive trees on the theme of Palestinian folk songs that the organizers and the participants chanted.

As for the idea of the name of the project “Awnah” which means ‘help’, Sarhan said: “Long ago when the olive picking season began, some of the neighbors called out to each other, “Come let’s help each other out to pick these olives”, hence the idea of its name came about.

She added: “In the coming days, we will organize another event to complement the project, where we will press olives with the children, and read to them the story of “Aunt Zyoon, and the Olive Tree”.

Whereas the women of Madaa completed the initiative of “Awnah” yesterday and harvested olive trees for one of the women of the town of Silwan.
