The Mental Health Department at Madaa Creative Center - Silwan recently concluded a support course for mothers of prisoners and martyrs in partnership with the Palestinian Center for Guidance, which lasted for three months with the participation of a group of mothers of prisoners and martyrs from the city of Jerusalem, under the supervision of trainer Rima Shweiki.

The Deputy Director of Madaa, Sahar Abbasi said: “The course consisted of 12 meetings that aimed to support the mothers of prisoners and martyrs to overcome the hardships that they face in their lives by sharing their experiences with each other. Knowing that the circumstances of the families of the prisoners vary from the moment of arrest until the verdict, some parents’ sons have been sentenced to prison and there are others whose sons are still awaiting trial and the fate of their children remains unknown in Israeli jails. When these circumstances are shared with each other, the roles of the mothers shift from loss to support for one another.”

Abbasi added: “In the upcoming days Madaa will form other groups to support other women who are going through tough times whether social or political.”
