The youth group at Madaa Creative Center - Silwan in cooperation with the Palestinian Counseling Center recently launched the initiative “We will complete the Journey with my Shoulder against your Shoulder” which deals with the relationship between parents and children through a series of shows presented at Madaa Park in the town of Silwan, with the participation of youth and parents.
The social researcher at Madaa and the coordinator of the initiative, Hanan Salim, said: “As part of the Youth Empowerment Program, the youth group at Madaa went to schools and institutions and distributed forms to young people that will introduce them to the reasons why young people hurt themselves, “smoking, dropping out of school, anxiety and lack of sleep ... etc.”
Salim added: “after collecting the filled out forms and classifying them the group came to a conclusion that family problems and the lack of understanding of parents to their children is a major cause of the problems that arise in youth. Therefore, the idea of the initiative was born to break the ice and break the barriers between parents and children”.
The initiative included several presentations, including a rap song by the youth group discussing the relationship of children with their parents through its words that are addressed to the parents appealing to them to hear them, understand them and feel with them. And a play entitled “I am this way” containing messages addressed to parents and young people. In addition to a Dabkeh dance performance by the Madaa group for folk dance. The initiative was concluded with shared activities between parents and youth that aimed to break barriers between them.”
